Early
Learning and Literacy Program
- This drop in program is facilitated by a professionally
trained staff person which provides an opportunity for children
and their caregivers to interact with other children and caregivers
and find age and developmentally appropriate activities, toys
and equipment.
Healthy
Families Program
- A rotating roster of family support professionals
including Public Health Nurses, Dental Hygienists, Nutritionists,
Pharmacists, Parenting Experts, Safety Programs, Fitness Consultants
and Child Advocates
School's
Cool
- 72 hour transition-to-school program for children
ages 3-4.
- Curriculum is play-based and outcome-focused.
- Helps promote children's excitement for learning.
- Builds confidence and skills in the developmental
areas of language, math,social, and self-help.
- Runs 3 afternoons a week for 8 weeks.
- Class size is limited to 16
children.
Esso Family
Math
- A 6-week math series for parents or caregivers
and their
children 4-6 years of age
- Family Math is an interactive math program that
introduces games, activities and stories to reinforce skills and
develop
math concepts
- Children will explore estimating, graphing, patterning,
shapes, and measurement
- Family Math encourages risk-taking and problem
solving in order to develop both confidence and positive attitudes
towards mathematics
OEYC Toy Lending Library
- A mobile toy lending service that makes scheduled
visits to the West Niagara Family Centre
- Toys for children ages birth - 5 years old are
lent for a 2 week period. ECE staff can assist with the selection
of age and developmentally appropriate toys and equipment
Community
Roots Program
- Education or information on child development
- Physical Activity(e.g. kinder gym, infant/child
swimming)
- Gross Motor Development
- Social Interaction - Empathy
vs. Bullying
Coping with
Toddler Behaviour: A course for parents of children aged 12-36 months.
The course runs on 8 consecutive evenings. Parents
will learn:
- To foster a positive parent-child
relationship
- Use an authoritative "backbone"
parenting style
- Have appropriate expectations
- Tailor parenting to their child's
personality
- Prevent and respond to challenging
behaviours
This is an interactive group course and we
require a minimum of 20 parents to run it. Please call the centre
for more information.
Health Science Teaching Program
- Learners meet the requirements for their Early
Years curriculm by interacting with families at our sites
- Education or information on child development
- Information on Referrals and Hotlines
